Strongest monetisation potential
Advertiser demand varies enormously between niches. The same 100,000 views can be worth very different amounts depending on who is watching and what they are likely to buy.
| Niche | Typical RPM band | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Personal finance and investing | High | Advertisers pay heavily for financial intent |
| B2B software and marketing | High | Expensive products, business buyers |
| Real estate and insurance | High | Very high customer lifetime value |
| Tech reviews | Medium to high | Purchase intent, seasonal spikes |
| Education and careers | Medium | Broad advertiser interest |
| Fitness and wellness | Medium | Crowded but commercially active |
| Gaming | Low to medium | Young audience, huge volume required |
| Entertainment and comedy | Low | Volume business, weak advertiser targeting |
How to validate a niche in an afternoon
- 1Search five core topics on YouTube. Note whether recent videos from small channels are getting views — that means the niche is still permeable.
- 2Check whether anyone is publishing weekly. A dead niche is not an opportunity; it is usually a warning.
- 3Write ten video titles. If you struggle past six, the niche is too narrow for you.
- 4Look at who advertises to that audience elsewhere. No advertisers means no ad revenue.
- 5Ask whether you would still watch this content in two years. Burnout kills more channels than the algorithm does.
The mistake: choosing a niche you cannot narrow
'Tech' is not a niche. 'Self-hosting for people leaving cloud subscriptions' is. Narrow niches feel limiting and are actually the opposite — they let a small channel dominate a search term, build a recognisable identity, and expand outward later from a position of strength.
Model what a niche could realistically earn at different view counts before you commit.
